| A rousing full ensemble intro, complete with drum solos, leads to a four bar bass solo (walking line written out) that sets up the Trumpet section (in cup mutes) bebop melody, based on “rhythm changes”. The drummer also has the option to switch to brushes in this section before switching back to sticks for the rest of the chart. An open solo space allows for numerous soloists with cued backgrounds.
